It shall be unlawful for any minor:to attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages; or to drink or have in his or her possession any alcoholic beverages:in any public place; or on any public highway. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof:shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $100 for the minor’s 1^st conviction; and for the 2^nd or any subsequent conviction thereof, the minor shall be subject to a fine not exceeding $250 or to imprisonment in jail for a period not exceeding 60 days or both such fine and imprisonment in the discretion of the court.
