After an area has been designated as a bike lane by the Director, the Director must ensure that all drainage grates within the bike lane: have bars running perpendicular to the flow of traffic; consist of a grating composed of intersecting bars; or use another design that both the Director and the State Department of Transportation have approved as meeting bicycle safety design criteria as well as engineering and structural design demands.
