## Title 7. Costs, Fines, and Forfeitures

### Subtitle 5. Fines and Forfeitures

#### Section 7-501

(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.

(b) "Costs" means the cost of prosecuting a person for a crime.

(c)

  (1) "Crime" means any act or omission for which a statute or ordinance imposes a fine or imprisonment.

  (2) "Crime" does not include a municipal infraction under Title 6 of the Local Government Article.

(d)

  (1) "Fine" means the monetary penalty prescribed by a statute or ordinance for a crime.

  (2) "Fine" does not include costs.
