Approval of a respite care home is made by the provider, including the determination of the number of individuals with developmental or functional disabilities who may be cared for at one time in the home. The minimum requirements for a location to be approved as a respite care home are: Physical accessibility for the individual with the developmental or functional disability; Hot and cold running water; Functioning smoke detectors; Operable telephones; Inside bathroom facilities that are in good working condition; Sewage disposal and drinking water that meets local codes; Operable and safe heating and cooling systems; Operable refrigerator and stove; Food storage space protected against invasion of rodents, insects, dust, water leakage, and other sources of contamination; Furniture, including a separate bed and any special equipment adequate for the comfort and safety of the individual with the developmental or functional disability; and Satisfactory performance on a health and fire safety checklist established by the Administration. Respite care facilities other than a home shall maintain licensure as appropriate.
