The Program covers family training when the service is approved in the plan of service and rendered to a family member by a qualified provider, not including the time spent planning, preparing, setting up or following up after the training. The training and counseling services may not include services rendered: On a group basis or in a classroom setting; or To a family member of a participant residing in a licensed assisted living facility. The topics covered by the training and counseling services shall be: Targeted to the individualized needs of the family member receiving the training, as related to the participant's needs; Sensitive to the educational background, culture, and general environment of the participant or family member receiving the training; and Specified in the plan of service as necessary to: Ensure the participant's health and safety; and Prevent the participant's institutionalization. The training and counseling services may include: Instruction on treatment regimens and dementia; Use of equipment specified in the plan of service; Other issues; or Follow-up training as authorized. The initial assessment for training and counseling following a rehabilitative or hospital stay shall be performed in person. If family members are unable to participate fully in the service when delivered via telehealth, the provider shall perform the service in person. Except as provided in §§E and F of this regulation, family training services may be rendered via telehealth.
