The Board shall appoint members of the Committee as follows: Three individuals who practice genetic counseling who: Are in good standing with the Board; Are a resident of the State with at least 1 year of active genetic counseling experience as a licensed, supervised, or certified genetic counselor within the 5-year period immediately preceding the date of the appointment; and On or after January 1, 2024, are licensed genetic counselors; Three practicing licensed physicians who: Are in good standing with the Board; and Have experience working with genetic counselors; and One consumer member who: Shall be a member of the general public; and May not: Practice, or ever have practiced genetic counseling, or any other health care profession; Be, or ever have been, in training to practice genetic counseling or any other health care profession; Have a household member who is a health care professional or is in training to be a health care professional; Participate, or ever have participated, in a commercial or professional field related to genetic counseling; Have a household member who participates in a commercial or professional field related to genetic counseling; Have had, within 2 years before appointment, a financial interest in a person regulated by the Board; or Have had, within 2 years of appointment, a financial interest in the provision of goods or services to genetic counselors or to the field of genetic counseling. Tenure. The term of a member is 3 years. The terms of the members are staggered. At the end of a term, a member continues to serve until a successor is appointed and qualifies. An individual may be reappointed for a second 3-year term, but the individual may not serve more than two consecutive 3-year terms. The terms of the initial members of the Committee shall expire as follows: Two members in 2024; Two members in 2025; and Three members in 2026. Vacancy. If a vacancy occurs, the Board shall appoint a new member to serve on the Committee. The successor member shall only serve for the remainder of the term unless reappointed. Chair. From among its members, the Committee shall elect a chair every 2 years. Quorum. A quorum of the Committee consists of five members. Business may not be conducted at a Committee meeting unless there is a quorum. In addition to the powers set forth elsewhere in this chapter, the Committee may develop and make recommendations to the Board in any matters related to the regulation of the practice of genetic counseling.
