Modifications—The controlling party, owner, person, or organization responsible for the conduct of the operator and maintenance of the low speed vehicle may not perform, or allow to be performed, any modifications or additions which affect capacity, safe operation, maximum speed, or any change not in accordance with the operator's manual without the manufacturer's prior written authorization. Where authorized modifications have been made, the controlling party shall ensure that capacity, operation, warning, and maintenance instruction plates, tags, and decals are changed accordingly. Modifications are described in SAE J2358, which is incorporated by reference in Regulation .02 of this chapter.
