The Department shall conduct an election to determine the teacher member-elect, whose name shall be presented to the Governor for appointment to the State Board of Education, with the advice and consent of the Senate. The teacher member elect shall be selected from a list of candidates provided by the Department to all certified teachers in the State. A teacher member’s seat on the State Board of Education shall become vacant if the teacher fails to hold certification in Maryland or stops actively teaching.
